PUD Wins Gold for Drinking Water Quality
Skagit PUD’s Water Treatment Plant was awarded a Gold Certificate of Achievement from the Washington State Office of Drinking Water for meeting and exceeding strict water quality standards for the past 10 years.
Japan Earthquake 2011
Following the nuclear power plant emergency in Japan, the Washington State Department of Health began collecting and testing rainwater for the presence of radioactive materials. The earthquake and tsunami on March 11 damaged the reactors and caused radioactive iodine (iodine 131) to be released to the air.
Flushing Program Keeps Clean Water Flowing
As part of Skagit PUD’s ongoing maintenance and water quality efforts, the PUD conducts a water line flushing program throughout its 600 mile water system.

Why do we treat your water? Water treatment is the process of cleaning water. Treatment makes the water safe for people to drink.
Asbestos in Water
Skagit PUD recently had a large water main break in West Mount Vernon that released about 1.5 million gallons of water into the surrounding neighborhood. The pipe that broke was made of asbestos-cement and installed in 1969.
Consumer Confidence Report
Each year by July 1, Skagit PUD mails out consumer confidence reports (CCR) and water use efficiency report to our customers.
Water Quality
T his spring, Skagit PUD has experienced an increase in the number of customer calls involving taste and odor concerns. Taste and odor issues are some of the most difficult for a water system to address.
Restoring 9,272 Plants
Phase I of the $4.2 million Judy Reservoir to Mount Vernon Transmission Pipeline project is now complete.
WTP Earns TOP honors
Skagit PUD’s Water Treatment Plant was awarded a Silver Certificate of Achievement from the Washington State Office of Drinking Water for meeting stringent criteria related to public health protection. Skagit PUD was one of 14 plants to receive such an award.
