Toys for Tots

With the arrival of the 2011 holiday season, Skagit PUD and the U.S. Marine Corps are once again teaming up to give back to the community it serves, with its annual Toys for Tots campaign.

Skagit PUD is a collection site for dropping off new toys to be distributed by the Marine's Toys for Tots program for needy children in the area. Toys can be donated during business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday - Friday at 1415 Freeway Drive in Mount Vernon.

Items must be new, unwrapped and in their original packaging—toy guns and weapons can not be accepted. A single toy can make a tremendous difference to the life of a forgotten child.

Toys for Tots has been collecting and delivering toys for children since 1947 when Bill Hendricks USMCR and a group of Marine Reservists collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. Now in its 64th year, the organization boasts almost 20 million toys delivered to close to eight million children.
